Kitty is King of them all on day two at Hartpury.

Kitty King and Vendredi Biats top the leader board after a top day two of dressage at NAF Five Star International Hartpury Horse Trials.

It is going to be an exciting day of action tomorrow with fierce competition in the Superflex CIC***. Kitty King sits clear of the field with a dressage mark of 39.1 whilst Stella Benatti takes second place on Zaron with 43.5.

Overnight leader Franky Reid-Warrilow has dropped to third place on her score of 44.0, now joint place with American rider Lauren Kieffer and Veronica II who match Franky’s mark on 44.0. Fifth placed Sharon Hunt also received a mark of 44.0 from the judges, but drops behind with lower collective marks.

Also sitting in the top 10 are a host of experienced riders who will be hoping to stake their claim on the cross country. This includes Paul Tapner riding two horses, Andrew Nicholson, Jeanette Brakewell and Ludwig Svennerstal.

Kitty King said: “I am delighted with him – he is only eight years old so I thought he may be rather spooky but he was very soft and consistent and kept his concentration throughout.”

The previous night’s leader in the Magic CCI** was Amelia Walker riding Director General. Today she was pipped to the post by Willa Newton and Moonlight Dance S on a score of 41.6. Roberto Scalisi and Topaze Du Plain slotted into third, scoring 45.2.

In the Recover CCI*, overnight leader Chloe Lynn retained her top spot with Calzini, on a score of 43.4. There is now only one mark separating the next six places so every second will count out on the cross country tomorrow. Imogen Gloag steered Kalico into second place on a mark of 45.2 whilst Amelia Walker fills third spot, on a score of 45.3.

It’s all set to be a great day of show jumping and cross country competition tomorrow.

CCI* and CCI** cross country course designer Angus Smales said: “I’ve made some changes to the courses this year. It’s a big, bold track – brave horses will be rewarded. I’m very excited, but as my first CCI course design it is also a little nerve-wracking!

“Working with Eric Winter has been a lot of fun and really interesting, and the course building team has done an amazing job building the courses, as they always do.”

Tickets are still available for cross country day, Saturday 12^th, at £10 per person and Sunday’s entry is just £5. Under 16s and parking is free all weekend.
