Wye Valley Riding Club celebrate 40th anniversary

Wye Valley Riding Club celebrated its 40th anniversary with at party for members past and present at Itton Village Hall on 3 December.

This really is a very significant achievement and around 80 members and friends including Joint President David Broome and his wife Liz and Patron and founder member Roy Raikes-May were able to be there and reminisce with each other on their part in the clubs history.

Our other Joint President Richard Meade although unable to attend, sent the club his good wishes for the evening and the future, stressing the important part riding clubs played in the equestrian community.

Those who were there were welcomed at the door by Marilyn and then offered a drink (wine, beer or soft – for those driving) ably served by Chairman Kathy, Karen and Helen. After an opportunity to mingle and chat and a wel-come from Pam Davidson who was the evening’s organiser, we all sat down for a supper of lovely homemade lasa-gne made by Pam and Ann with garlic bread followed by a selection of delicious puddings that various people had donated to the evening. David Broome later did the honours and cut the anniversary cake in the shape of 40 kindly made by Ann. Check out the pictures on the club’s Facebook page.

Pam had brought along her collection of Newsletters going back to the early 80’s for anyone to browse through and some photos of events gone by to help with the reminiscing. Some newer photos had been organised into a slide show by Lindsay that included the clubs recent visit to the Riding Club Championships.

The thoroughly enjoyable evening ended with a raffle for prizes that included chocolates, wine and a brace of pheasants – what more could you want! The evening also rekindled the enthusiasm of some past members who by the end of the evening were planning to rejoin the club.

Grateful thanks must go to all the committee and members who organised the evening preparing food, getting the drinks and other shopping, decorating and setting out the hall, clearing up and washing up afterwards. Well done.

Welcome from Pam Davidson
