Showing a Cob in Ridden Classes

“Can you give me tips on showing my cob in ridden classes.  It’s completely new to me and so is the horse.  I don’t know what I should wear, nor what he should wear!”

Answer from Claire:

“In cob classes the cob should be shown in either a double bridle or Pelham.  The bridle should be heavyweight leather and a thick noseband.  A well fitted saddle is needed, if possible not sat too far forward in order to show off the cobs shoulder, and also doesn’t roll as saddles tend to do this with cobs.  A thin numnah  underneath the saddle, either black or brown, that fits the saddle and a brown girth.

A cob must have a nice short pulled tail cut off just below the hock and feathers trimmed. Also ears trimmed out and whiskers trimmed.

The rider should wear a shirt and neat tie and hacking (ratcatcher) jacket.  Dark coloured gloves, beige breeches and black boots and a pair of spurs.  A velvet hat and showing cane.”
