Hartpury is looking for loan horses

Are you a horse owner heading off to university or are you struggling to find the time to give your horse the attention he or she deserves? Hartpury could have the answer.

Hartpury is looking for loan horses that can be used for teaching our college and University Centre equine students for the next academic year from September 2015. They will receive excellent care, attention and exercise from our dedicated and experienced yard and instructing team.

Director of Animal, Equine and Land at Hartpury, Tom Hallam, said: “Sending your horse to a college on loan can be the ideal solution if you’re off to university and don’t know what to do with your horse, or if you have work commitments or financial constraints.

“The day to day care of the horse, including a tailored exercise plan, diet, bedding and farriery, are all provided by our highly qualified staff, and we treat all of the horses as individuals, ensuring they benefit from the right balance of work and relaxation, much like our students!”

Hartpury usually asks for loan horses to be at least five years old, 15hh or above and established on the flat and over fences. Our loan horses range from those used in Riding for the Disabled sessions right up to former advanced eventing horses. They are ridden by riders of a range of abilities, from British Horse Society Stages One to Four.

Tom added: “Horses are graded depending on their level of training and education. We need a variety as we run a range of courses and host BHS training courses and exams.”

Sally Harte, who put her horse on loan at Hartpury, said: “I would like to thank all the equine staff at Hartpury College, especially Emelye Trew [Yard Manager], for all of the thought and effort they put into looking after my two ponies. They couldn’t have been in better hands.”
