Strides Veterinary Physiotherapy is delighted to offer Roger Gregory a sponsorship for 2016/17. Roger is a professional dressage rider and registered trainer who has competed successfully on his own and others’ horses to Grand Prix.

“I am delighted to be offered this sponsorship. As every rider is aware, horses like humans  are prone to many type of injuries whether it is a competition horse or a happy hacker. We all sometimes get that feeling that something is not quite right and you go through all the normal channels of saddle fitting, bit changes, teeth, diet, shoeing or even the vets. This is where animal physiotherapy can help.

Emily takes a detailed history of the horse, as well as contacting your vet and listens to issues the rider is having or feeling under saddle.  Because Emily is an experienced horse rider who backs, trains and competes horses herself, she is able to understand the issues and can relate it to what she observes in the horse straight away. For me this is very important as it means the correct treatment is given and exercises are built into to the type of work the horse is doing.

Benefits they receive from the treatment by Emily include:

• pain relief/management (alongside Veterinary treatment)

• increased circulation

• enhanced healing post injury/surgery

• improved range of movement

• reduced muscle spasm

• improved muscle symmetry

• improved strength and movement

As a trainer and rider I highly recommend Emily and look forward to endorsing her through the sponsorship and work she does”  Roger Gregory

Since graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Equine Studies Emily has been the Yard Manager of Livery and Training Yard in Hopesay, Shropshire.  During this time, Emily has competed her own horses at dressage and eventing as well as running the yard on a day to day basis and breaking and schooling many different horses and ponies.  Whilst working with horses Emily has encountered several injuries, if you have horses, they get injured! Working with the Vet, Farrier and Veterinary Physiotherapist to rehabilitate these injuries and see the transformation for the animal and  the owner really interested her and the decision was made to train to become a Vet Physio!

Emily studied her Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Physiotherapy at Harper Adams University.  She was fortunate to have placements with some of the best Veterinary Physiotherapists in the country and gained valuable experience from them.  Exams are heavily practical giving an all round education prior to qualification.  This combined with the skills and knowledge gained as yard manager and a horse rider, owner and competitor has obvious benefits. Emily is now fully qualified, insured and a member of the NAVP and has set up Strides Veterinary Physiotherapy (www.stridesvp.co.uk) a mobile physiotherapy service for horses and dogs covering Shropshire and surrounding areas.  The service includes a thorough assessment of your animal, treatment and remedial exercise advice from a friendly, experienced horse and dog owner.

“ I am extremely excited to be able to sponsor a Grand Prix rider and know that when they go out competing the horses will be in the best physical health through my work. Dressage is such a demanding sport on a horses muscles, tendons and ligaments so it is important that they are strong and the horses are able to move well so they can perform the movements. This is an exciting start to my career and my new business and as it grows I hope to look at sponsoring other riders”  Emily Culpeck
