REPORT OF UNAFFILIATED SHOWJUMPING

AT HIGHGROVE HOUSE, CRAVEN ARMS, SHROPSHIRE

1 st April 2007

With no April Fools! A Sunny but Chilly day brought a good turnout of Competitors and Spectators.

The last class of the day was the Puissance. This proved to be the highlight of the day. Our newly painted wall provided the main fence along with a Spread. A very high standard of competitors took the bit between their teeth to try to win the Prize Money (£25.00 to the Winner, £15.00 to 2 nd & 3 rd £10.00). This had been kindly sponsored by Newington Garage Services of Craven Arms who supply Garden Machinery and Total Motor Fuels. With the arena being raked between each competitor by my Father and Gary smith (who worked so hard the Rake gave up!!) the scene was set.

Out of the 13 riders who started, 10 jumped clear in round 5 to set up a 10 horse jump off in Round 6 (3’6”). Charlie Banks and Bess set the target by jumping an excellent clear. Jenny Phillips on her first ride Frankie then took the lead in a quicker time, this was then beaten by the amazing Pickles. Pickles owned by Jacky Brick ridden by Cecily Byard was our smallest Horse competitor being only 12.2hh flew the Spread and the Wall to go into the lead with lots of vocal support. However, this was short lived as Emily Smith and Gideon took the lead with a slightly quicker round. Then Jenny Phillips and Shorty (taking part of his name) took a short cut and jumped clear in an amazing time of 5.10 seconds. This no one could better, thus winning the Puissance. Out of the 10 competitors, 7 jumped clear in Round 6.

The Jackpot Open 2’6” with £14 going to the winner provided an equally tight jump off with only 0.04 seconds splitting the Winner Elisha Musgrove on Chester from Emily Smith on Gideon. Jenny Phillips finished 3 rd on Frankie and 4 th on Shorty.

Cecily Byard on Pickles won a close fought 2’3” class ahead of Norelle Langford on Bonny with Charlie Banks on Bess 3 rd. The 2’0” class was won comfortably by Gregory Young on Susie with Lucy Davies on Charlie 2 nd and Abigail Young on Lily 3 rd. Lucy Davis on Dandy won the first class of the day with Gregory Young on Susie a close 2 nd and Abigail Young on Lily 3 rd.

REPORT OF OPEN SHOWING & SHOWJUMPING DAY

24 th March 2007

At Highgrove House, Craven Arms, Shropshire

To help bring in British Summer Time the weather was kind to us, a little chilly but dry. We had an excellent turnout of competitors from Shropshire and surrounding counties.

The day commenced with 9 showing classes aimed at all levels in a relaxed atmosphere. The turnout in some classes were large making it tricky for our Judge Sue to pick the winners as all the horses were turned out to a high standard.

In the Longest Mane & Tail, it was judged in two sections tail length visually, then out came the tape measure and with help from the riders the manes were measured. The winner went to Jessica Darbyshire and Tara, the mane was 64 cms in length (later Tara competed in the Jumping with a platted forelock to help her see!!) 2 nd place went to Jackie Worley with our own Dartmoor Pony Sherberton Tom Piper with a 49 cms long mane.

The veteran horses were next in. Jasper owned by Charlotte Worley won aged 30 years young! There was certainly a lot of life left in him (including a tap fitting disappearing!) 2 nd place was Fiona Bentley on the excellently turnout 24 year old Richard.

Most appealing eyes was a large class which was won by Murphy who was handled by Chloe Roberts, apparently he had a “I’m a Horse get me out of here” expression! Molly with Jane Allcoat took 2 nd and Kathryn Dytor with Molly came 3 rd.

Last but not least Best Thelwell (or pony with most attitude) winner was Jessica Danelow with Grimpowood May Prince.

The Showjumping classses commenced at 1pm, which were well supported providing competitive Jump Offs. The Mini X-Poles was sucessful for Erin Cullimore who won on Irish Valentine and was 3r d on Mullens Mischief. Abigail Young riding Lily split Erin to take 2 nd. The 1’6” class provided our closest finish of the day with just 0.14 seconds splitting the Winner Helen Brookes on Maisie from Abigail Young on Lily. 3 rd place went to Lucy Davies on Charlie.

REPORT OF MINI CHRISTMAS SHOWJUMPING

AT HIGHGROVE HOUSE, CRAVEN ARMS, SHROPSHIRE

Friday 22 nd December 2006

A frosty morning set the scene for our festive show. Despite the cold we had a reasonable turnout of Horses, Dogs and Humans!! There were Christmas themed prizes and rosettes to the Winners.

Class 1 Mini X-Poles was run over very low x-poles against an Optimum Time. This was a close class with Morgan Cartlidge riding Little Bill winning with Sarah Morgan on Merlin coming 2 nd. Little Bill was also placed 3 rd with Topaz Cartlidge riding.

With Ice in the Water Carry it was certainly chilly! Katy Mellor and Malcolm Taylor had excellent rounds finishing with nearly all their water left but with the same amount, Katy Mellor had a quicker time so was the winner with Malcolm 2 nd.

To help warm people up the Dog Jumping took place. The 10 years & under section was won by Zoe Paton with Buffy, Morgan Cartlidge and Libby were 2 nd, just behind was Topaz Cartlidge with Jinny. In the 11 years – 16 years section the success of the Cartlidge family continued with Saphire Cartlidge winning with Libby just beating Amber with Jinny. Rebecca Wood who ran with our dog Tess was the clear winner in the over 16 years. Teass then decided that one round was enough and when I andd my father ran slipped her collar with both of us! Sam Cartlidge with Jinny was 2 nd with Malcolm Taylor and Toby 3 rd.

The last two classes were won by Zoe Paton on Nutmeg. Malcolm Taylor on Chica completed his day with a 2 nd and 3 rd. Alice Morgan on her new pony Toffo came 2 nd in Class 4.

At last we found an evening when we could present Jody Hargest with her bottle of Champagne won in the free draw to celebrate Hereford Equestrian's 3rd birthday (23rd July 2006).....well - you try organising 3 very busy horsey people who also work full time!!
