Latest info on the suspicious men below:

More updates of the people photographing horses and acting suspiciously are coming in all the time.

The Police have just phoned us to update us after their investigations into a report of men and the N reg white van and red four wheel drive (land cruiser/land rover has been mentioned) photographing horses in LLanishen yesterday.

The owners gave chase to the vehicle but could not get the registration and unfortunately they got away.

The Police have just told us that yellow arrows have been marked on the road to the horses in Llanishen.

Also, last night Caldicot Police were given reports of a van fitting the description acting suspiciously in the Tintern St Arvans area.

The Police have passed it on to intelligence to see if it has any links to a number of horse thefts. They seem to be taking it very seriously.

There have been sightings of 2 men with Eastern European accents photographing horses. This could be a "steal to order" gang. The men have been seen at shows, events and even in a horse owner's field taking photographs. They have been seen in various vehicles including a White Van, Registration Number N 253 XAJ and a Red Land Cruiser. The Police are treating this as suspicious, so please contact them urgently if you see anything. ALSO:

Y848 XNR - Silver Transit Van caught casing a yard in Lambley - Police confirm false number plates - please advise as many people as possible to be alert.

These vehicles have been seen all over the country doing the same and we have reason to believe are looking to steal the animals. Please alert anyone who keeps horses. Should the vehicles be seen please contact
the Police on 0845 090 1234 quoting incident 289 of 2nd June.

Connemara Stallion Stolen:

Artful Archer born 2000. 7 yrs grey, registered Connemara Stallion by Arrow Javelin. He has good bone & substance with a superb temperament. He has one long white sock on his near hind & an unusual white spot on his off hind in the gaskin area. He was removed from his field in Oxfordshire and taken to a yard in Petersfield on 14/10/06. Subsequent attempts to retrieve him failed as he was then moved to an unknown destination. After many months of searching a phone call was received indicating that he was in the North Manchester area. Several weeks later, at the beginning of July 07, I had another phone call indicating that he had moved to a further, unknown destination. During all this time Archer has been transported up & down the country without his passport. Is he alive? If you know of Archer's whereabouts please contact Shropshire Horsewatch in confidence admin@shropshirehorsewatch.co.uk or phone 01746 712654 or 07970 548896 To view picture go to www.shropshirehorsewatch.co.uk/Stolen_Horse.html

Also cover for numberplate light damaged and the rubber at bottom of partition. At time of theft trailer contained a few 1m felt tiles, bucket, water carrier and quick-release trailer ties. Trailer has POSTCODE and TELEPHONE NUMBER on roof and security sticker on rear. Any sightings or information requested by Hereford Police 08457 444888, incident number 108-S-160507 refers.

There was apparently an attempted theft of 6 ponies from Madresfield near Malvern at 4am on Wednesday morning. Someone heard running engines and a car and lorry made off before details could be seen.
Also, still unconfirmed, 2 horses taken from Callow End, Worcester last week.  So easy for a lorry to come off the motorway from anywhere.

MISSING/ STOLEN

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS TINY FILLY FOAL?

She was last seen on Tuesday 24th October 2006 in her field with her mother and other mares and foals( Lincs/Leics borders). She had NOT been weaned or halter broken and would have been very timid and very scared. She was the youngest of the group (born in July 2006) and her mother had always kept 'Snip' away from the group.

She is mainly black with very distinctive white markings. The photos were taken at the begining of October and her height was about 24" the last time we measured her. Both her parents are about 30" and so she definately only grow to about this height. Snip had also a tiny head without her winter coat.

PLEASE HELP - if you have any information or sightings at all please ring me.

strap on the right hand side only. At the time of theft it
had a "Sparrow" tag on the D-ring. It was stolen along with
a black jeffries gel-filled girth.

because they have a different shaped buckle to reduce bulk

Stolen......be warned and be careful!

with ref to the stolen energizer below, I have now heard of this incident in Evesham: " we had electric fencing stolen on Tuesday 21st Nov at night, they took the sticks, and cut the tape after disconnecting it from the battery. luckily the pony which was left exposed to the road was not injured."

A CP500 energizer was stolen from a field in Marden recently. The battery was left and luckily the gates closed, but please beware. The energizer was not easily visible from the road and no public footpath runs through the field.

A green Ifor Williams 510 trailer was stolen from Aston Ingham area overnight 22nd/23rd September 2006. The serial number is 390734, the trailer was manufactured in 2004 and is in very good condition. A trailer was stolen from the back of it's 4 x 4 towing vehicle
in broad daylight in a public car-park near the Cattle Market today.
The trailer was obviously unhitched from the vehicle and re-hitched onto
another vehicle before being towed away! It was a green Rice trailer.
See www.trailerwatch.com for more information re the theft of trailers.
We suggest you paint your towing vehicle reg no on the top, and sides of your
trailer to help prevent it from being stolen.

Recent Incident report from Kate Bishop
"I keep my horses at Hampton Bishop and two weeks ago they were purposely let out of the paddock onto the road.
I know it was intentional because it happened twice within one hour and I had made double double sure that the gate
was securely fastened the first time I put them back in. I padlocked the gate that night but on Saturday the shepherd
who also keeps sheep in the field, left the padlock off and hey presto they were all let out again. The first two times they
were let out they ended up on the main road into Hereford from Hampton Bishop but luckily two equine minded people
managed to catch them. The second time it happened they bolted into the farm yard and my thoroughbred harry ran
straight into something sharp and cut his face quite badly. I have now decided that the only option is to move them to a
proper livery yard with constant supervision. This obviously is going to cost me more money and is not as convenient as
having them in a field right outside my house. Has anyone else had any experience with idiots thinking it's funny to let
horses out of fields and put their lives in danger? I understand a lady from Lugwardine had her horses field gate left wide
open but the friend who told me of this secured it before they could escape. Is it a bit of a 'fetish' going on with the local
yob culture?" kate.bishop@akegroup.com

NEWS:
Major saddlery theft
Terri Anderson had approx £20,000 worth of saddlery stolen from a secure paddlocked stone
building just yards from their house. Amongst the stolen items were
1 Brand new black 17.5" Albion GP saddle, printed with a serial number (to follow);
1 Stubben Siegfried 17.5" GP made in Switzerland with a 32" tree (wide);
1 Prestige Paris D SJ saddle which has (or had) a brass name plate on the back engraved 'Terri Anderson';
Tan handmade bridles with ESB stamped on every piece of the leatherwork.
Please look out for these items which may appear for sale locally or on an online auction such as Ebay.
However, it is believed that being a professional job, the tack has probably already left the county if not the
country.

Warning!
Thieves have removed and stole rugs and headcollars off horses in a field in Moreton-on-Lugg
while the owner was out for the evening. Please send me any information you have re break-ins,
burglaries, missing or stolen goods etc.

Deter Rug Thieves, Police advice - relayed by Jackie Weaver
Dont give rug thieves an easy time:
Nowadays Turnout and stable rugs are far more advanced and expensive than they used to be and therefore there is a market for the thieves. You may spend a £100 + on a rug and a "Joe Bloggs" will take off your horse and sell it to "Jim Bloggs" for £20!
Go and get some bright non drip gloss paint and paint your post code in big letters on it. You might think it looks unsightly but is that better than finding your horse freezing cold or worse injured by straps as they try and flee the thief. This was advice from police, because in a different area many rugs were being stolen and as they admitted they thought they knew who had taken them but you cannot very easily prove that that is your rug, so without proof they can not be prosicuted. This is an excellent deterrant, as one, they dare not be caught with these rugs as easily identifiable and if you have gone to these lengths, what else have you done to protect your possessions. We followed their advice, and still do, and the thefts did stop. If you are worrying about resale of your secondhand rug, not really a problem, because if you sell it legitimately then it goes somewhere else with your postcode on it, but if sold illegally then they would have to remove the postcode by painting over it, so if you got offered, or saw a horse in a field with painted out area on its rug, the question would be, where did that come from and what have you got to hide? People work hard for their money and try to do the best for their horses, so dont make it so easy for the thieves and for the peolple to but your very expensive rug for next to nothing.

ELECTRONIC ID CHIPPING

Protecting your SADDLE with a Stoptheft ® electronic ID chip enables owner identification to be established anytime, anywhere!!
Stoptheft ® electronic ID chipping involves the installation of a tiny passive chip into the SADDLE, to ensure your saddle is identifiable as yours at all times.

Many stables and farm buildings have little or no security, with only bolts or easily removed padlocks protecting tack and equipment - never mind the horse! Saddles, riding equipment and trailers are often seen as easy pickings for thieves.
