Equissage |
Designed
for people - refined
for horses |
What is equissage?
Background
Equissage equipment has been developed from human
massage equipment which has been used successfully for over 50 years
in relieving symptoms associated with injuries or illness, to increase
mobility or simply to promote a feeling of wellbeing and ease.
The Equissage is based on a unique cycloidal action
which produces a very deep but very gentle, non-aggressive physiotherapy
massage reaching every part of the body.
In humans, the prime medical benefits of the special
three dimensional vibration include relaxation of muscles,
increased joint mobility and improved circulation and lymphatic drainage.
In horses too, the results are dramatic in producing
better movement and performance as well as helping with many specific
problems.
|
 |
 |
Simple and safe, it is recommended
for daily use. In only 20 minutes or so, even on top of rugs, the
Equissage pad’s action brings numerous benefits including
warming up before and warming down after exercise, preventing stiffness
and loosening up a horse’s action. It helps promote general
good health and well being and can help improve a horse’s
skin, coat and hooves.
In addition, when used in conjunction with the
Equissage Handset, specific problems such as trouble with tendons
and ligaments, sore shins, pulled muscles, soft swellings, cold
or sore backs, early stages of colic, tying up and thick wind can
be relieved successfully. As well as generally speeding up the
healing process it can prevent fluid retention, thus secondary
infections, and help soften and draw abscesses.
Top competitors currently using and recommending
the Equissage include:
William Fox-Pitt and Karen O’Connor in
Eventing; Ellen Whitaker, Di Lampard, Bill Twomey and John
Renwick in Showjumping; Lee Pearson, Nicola McGivern, Nikki Barrett
and Laura Fry in Dressage; Sarah Tyson, Kirsty Whiscombe, Beccy
Broughton and Liz Platts in Endurance and James Fanshawe, Paul
Webber, Henrietta Knight and Howard Johnson in Racing as well as
a host of riders, trainers, producers, vets and complementary therapists
across all equine disciplines around the country.
Plus, there are countless livery yards, riding
schools and, perhaps even more telling, individuals from all walks
of life who will testify through their own experiences to the benefits
Equissage can bring to a horse or pony. |
|
Equissage
is for every horse, not just those with problems or top
competition horses................
And for the riders
too!

kicking out, not wanting saddle on, refusing to stand
when being mounted
- Dipping, flinching, violent tail swishing
when groomed
- Head shy
- After a fall or knock, during box
rest, post-operative care in conjunction with veterinary advice
- Soft tissue swellings, capped hocks,
windgalls, thoroughpins, edema, haematoma
- Wind problems
- Foot sore, laminitic, poor hoof growth

Equissage
By Cheryl Knight - A Case History |
Harry, a 16.3hh ID/TB event horse,
can get uptight and is quite tense. A nightmare to clip, he requires
sedation and twitching, so I was fascinated to see his reaction
to Equissage.
Sally Prichard checked his history,
movement and schooling and, by feeling over his body, obvious muscle/soft
tissue problems. She introduced the Equissage pad and gently started
to get him used to the vibration on his back – he soon settled
and seemed to be enjoying the therapy.
Sally explained the pad
stimulates circulation, releases muscle tension, improves lymphatic
drainage and gives a deep cycloidal massage releasing lactic acid
and encouraging healing. The treatment worked through his whole
body and I could even feel it on his forehead. Everyday use of
the pad is recommended – it’s simple
and convenient with an in-built timer and can be used anywhere.
Next came the hand held unit which, like the
pad, is powered by rechargeable batteries. Earlier, to illustrate
the unique cycloidal effect, a marble placed on my fist spun on
its own as the handset was placed underneath, demonstrating Equissage
works through bone and muscles but is not intrusive and I felt
the sensation through to my shoulder. I expected Harry to leap
out of the stable, but although wary he became so relaxed, he hardly
flinched!
|
The handset was run
over Harry’s muscles and attention paid to sore and tight
areas. He really enjoyed this, pushing his body against the
machine to get the full benefit. He started to lick and chew,
his eyes went soft and I think he was actually smiling!
The handset should
be used in conjunction with the pad, but only need be applied
once or twice a week for maintenance. Obviously, it can be used
more often, even twice a day for specific injuries and, using the
knee and fetlock boot, is brilliant for filled legs and even laminitis.
I had a go and felt Harry respond
as Sally explained effects are cumulative, so regular use gives
best results in treating and preventing injury and general health
and welfare. You can ride immediately after therapy so it’s
ideal to warm up or warm down helping a horse’s performance.
Certainly, after therapy Harry appeared much more relaxed and freer
in his movement.
Equissage is a brilliant piece of equipment that
isn’t just for competition horses. Any horse benefits from
extra TLC – and riders can use it too!
Sally visited for a free no obligation trial and
clearly explained Equissage’s uses. Used by our top riders
in every discipline, I feel Equissage has equally important benefits
for horses such as Harry who do a little bit of everything. |

Equissage Helps Keep Horses Supple
”Words cannot describe how I feel to have my wonderful horse back. He is truly magnificent and a dream to ride. And I know that the only reason for it is Equissage.”
A truly satisfied customer, Rita Allen had been struggling to keep her veteran horse Boris supple. |
The pair still enjoys competing but more recently had lost marks on lack of suppleness in their performance at shows and competitions. Rita heard about Equissage through our sister company Vibratone, having had the human equipment demonstrated at Champneys and purchased a therapy table/bed for her beauty business in Clevedon. Convinced of the benefits of cycloidal vibration, she also bought an Equissage for her horse!
Subsequently, I was thrilled to receive this email from Rita …..
“…….Dear Sally,
I must write with the news but forgive me if it's a bit incoherent as my head is in a spin!
As you know I've been quite busy so I only get down to the yard at the end of the week. I started this week by giving Boris a really thorough Equissage massage on Thursday but no exercise as he'd not been too good on the Sunday. Then I warmed him up with Equissage and lunged on Friday, then on Saturday I did another good 40 min session followed by schooling.
To say I was gob-smacked is an understatement! Within 20 minutes he was willingly popping into canter, changing both reins in beautifully balanced counter canter figure of 8's. Needless to say I was so stunned, I left it at that; started madly shampooing and tack cleaning all afternoon in preparation for the Congresbury show the following day that I'd had no intention of going to.
The class I chose was the ridden veteran class. (I had told myself I would not do dressage with Boris again because he was being picked up more on lack of suppleness as time went on and had even considered having to retire him). I had no idea quite what I'd let myself in for. A large group of horses and ponies all riding together was alien to Boris and he became quite explosive! Needless to say, bucking doesn't win prizes but the judge came to me at the end and told me he was truly magnificent and obviously a top class show hunter in his day but couldn't place me due to his behaviour in the first round.
Even though I was exhausted I was delighted with the comment and as Boris was going so well, felt comfortable enough to gravitate to the dressage arena where I took a late entry. It was only a prelim 10 but it could have been a novice or an elementary and he had all the suppleness he needed. We came joint first with 73%.
Words cannot describe how I feel to have my wonderful horse back. He was truly magnificent and a dream to ride. And I know that the only reason for it is Equissage. I would love to write you a proper testimonial but I believe there is more to come, so watch this space!
Kind Regards
Rita |

| Local Testimonials: |
Maz Scudamore (Racing):
"I know when Equissage has not been
used on the horses, their performance suffers. We have
just bought a second kit for our expanding yard. It's
helping pointers, flat and jump horses, especially if they
have tight backs or are tense. |
Mary Davenport (Showing Working
Hunters and Cobs):
"Wouldn't be without it - it is used
constantly and has definitely improved the condition and
performance of our horses. It has also recently helped with
a shoulder problem on a friend's horse." |
Clare Dyson (Racing):
"We have had great results this season.
It is used on all the horses and I loan out the pad to non-racing
neighbours who are also delighted with the results they are
achieving." |
Kirsty Thompson (Eventing):
"The effect of the Equissage pad on my excitable
TB event horse has been remarkable. Following his first
session, even my trainer was impressed by the difference
in the softness and lack of tension through his back which
has always been a problem in the past. At the first event
of the season, I could barely get on him, but after 20 mins
of using the Equissage pad, he chilled out completely and
achieved one of his best dressage scores ever. I am
now using the kit on my new young horse. He loves it
and it clearly makes him very relaxed and soft through the
back, which really helps his training." |
