Who’s who of eventing at the top of the leaderboard after XC

It’s 2 horses apiece for top riders at Burghley following the cross country.  William Fox-Pitt is in the lead with Parklane Hawk and 8th with Neuf des Coeurs. Andrew Nicholson is lying 2nd with Avebury and 5th with Nereo and  Mary King is lying 4th with Kings Temptress and 7th with Apache Sauce.  Last year’s winner Caroline Powell is lying 3rd with the lovely grey Lenamore,  Ireland’s Elizabeth Power puts her bad fall at Badminton behind her with a good clear on Kilpatrick River to lie 6th, Australian Sam Griffiths lies 9th with Happy Times and Tom McEwen has a fantastic first Burghley to jump clear round the huge course inside the time to lie 10th with Dry Old Party.

Comanche the ride of Herefordshire vet James Robinson is one of the oldest horses competing at 18, but he jumped clear with just  7.6 time penalties to lie 21st of the 58 who completed the course. 11 were eliminated and 9 retired.
