In-hand showing with a 2yr old KWPN x Cob

Question:
“I have a KWPN x Cob coloured, rising 2 filly. She’s currently standing at about 14.2 at the withers. I’d like to do some in-hand showing with her at local level this summer just for some experience. I’m not sure what type she is and how to turn her and myself out though? I’ve attached a recent picture of her so you can see what she’s like”

Answer from Claire:
“This pony seems a very good type and could be shown in young stock coloured classes. Yourself can wear plain trousers, jodphur boots and a tweed jacket collar and tie and a riding cap if possible. Gloves and carry a short plain stick.

Your horse needs to have a plaited mane and the tail either thinned at the top or plaited, cut off level about six inches to eight inches below the hock. Trim its jaw and whiskers off and trim its feet and no need for shoes.

The pony must be shown in a plain leather bridle, snaffle bit and a lead rein. Needs to be shampooed the day before the show, feet oiled.

We do recommend you practice leading the filly up and trotting back.”
