Suitable for a Small Ridden Hunter Class?

Question:

Suitable for a Small Ridden Hunter ClassHi Claire, I show my horse locally in Family Horse, Riding Club Horse and Working Hunter classes. I would like to enter her in a class at a bigger show. From the photo I have included, can you tell me if you feel she would be suitable for a Small Ridden Hunter class, if not, are there any classes you can suggest that may suit her?

Should I apply quarter markers to hunters, or should they remain plain?

Also, do you have any tips on how to get an extra shiny coat and any product you would recommend for shiny hooves as my hoof oil always seems to rub straight off. Many thanks, Tracy

Answer from Claire:

Thank you for your question – your mare looks a good type of horse.  If she measures 158cm and  under she would be eligible for small hunter classes which would be perfect for her. To register her with SHBGB (Editor’s note: Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain is the governing body for all Hunter and Sport Horse classes, which are held at major shows throughout the country. See their website at: www.sporthorsegb.co.uk)  you would have to get a height certificate from your vet and register her with the jmb (Editor’s note: Joint Measurement Board – www.thejmbonline.co.uk ).  If you were not able to get her measured you would  have to show her in lightweight hunter classes and then there will be no need for a height certificate.

We put quarter marks on our hunters and NAF (natural animal feeds) hoof oil which we find perfect for oil in the ring.  D tangler in the tail which is brilliant, and shine and show for a rich glossy natural sheen.

Do hope this is some help.  Claire
