You want to feed your horse from the floor because, lets face it, that’s how horses are ‘designed’ to eat. But you also need to slow down the pace at which your horse consumes his hay and you don’t want it spread about the stable either!

Hereford Equestrian has been delighted to help spread the word about a solution for this over the years – ‘Pacefeeder’! And now, following a research project at the French National Stud in Saumur undertaken by Renes University,  the interesting results has been picked up by a leading NZ publication.

“Not all horses get to enjoy their forage outdoors. Researchers have found that the way in which stabled horses are fed their hay can have a major bearing on their wellbeing.” In conclusion they say: “The use of the slow-feeder seemed to have several advantages over a hay-bag, they said. There was still hay 11 hours after the slow-feeder was filled, whereas the hay-bags were often empty by midday, four hours after their morning fill and three hours before they were refilled with the rest of the day’s ration.”…Read full article
