Olympic medallists Dujardin, Hester and Wilton clean up in the Hazlewoods FEI CDI Grand Prix on day three 

Charlotte Dujardin continued her winning streak in an exciting third day of competition at the Hartpury Festival of Dressage (Friday 6 July).

The Olympic Gold medallist narrowly beat her Olympic team mates in the Hazlewoods CDI Grand Prix to take first place on Mount St John Freestyle with a score of 77.435%. Carl Hester, fellow Olympic Gold medallist, was hot on her heels to place second on Hawtins Delicanto with a score of 76.087%. Spencer Wilton, Olympic Silver medallist, came in third on Super Nova II with 75.848%.

Charlotte was joined by Carl and Spencer on the podium, cheered on by the crowd. Lucy Hammond, Associate Partner at Hazlewoods congratulated the winners as she presented them with their rosettes.

The sun shone as riders competed in the Classic Dressage CDI Prix St Georges. Jessica Dunn and Alicante Valley produced a wonderful test and took the win with a score of 72.794%. Competition was fierce as temperatures in the arena soared to nearly 30ᵒC. Nicola Buchanan on Half Moon Dark Magic narrowly missed out on the top spot to place second with 72.206%. Vicky Thompson Winfield finished the class in third place on one of her two rides, Artist with 71.647%.

The party started early as spectators enjoyed iconic sounds from Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, and even The Great British Bake off in the Hartpury Arena this morning. The para riders chose classical music and hits from films as they competed in the FEI Para Freestyle Tests, Grades I – V.

Sarah Armstrong, Performance Manager and chef d’quipe for the Great Britain team, said: “It’s been a fantastic three days of completion with many new combinations taking part. All of the competitors have enjoyed and appreciated the wonderful opportunity to ride in the outdoor areas at Hartpury.”

Isobelle Palmer riding Touchdown M won the Grade IV with 75.405% adding to her growing collection of first place rosettes from the festival. Nicola Greenhill came in second on Betty Boo with 72.505% and Heather Bennett followed in third place riding Zavailantika with 70.600%

Isobelle said: “I’m delighted with two wins in two days! He (Touchdown M) tries his heart out. I’m just thrilled.”

It was another fantastic day of dressage for Sophie Wells and C Fatal Attraction. A beautiful test in the Grade V took them to the top of the class and secured another win for the unstoppable pair. Sophie Wells celebrated the highest overall score in the Para competition at the prize giving in the afternoon. Charlotte Cundall and Bam Bam came in second with 70.665% and Tamsin Addison and Farenheit 212 came in third with 68.645%.

Sophie said: “The competition has been amazing. This is first time I have ridden to this music and I was delighted!”

Mari Durward Akhurst and Sky O Hara were victorious for the second day on the trot as they took first place in the Grade I with 73.080%. Runners-up were Sophie Christiansen riding Amazing Romance with 70.920% and Diane Green riding Gunstones Pride with 70.633%.

A great test by Georgia Wilson and Midnight Z in the Grade II placed them first in the class with 73.533%. Suzanna Hext and LJT Engaards Solitaire came a very close second with 73.360% followed up by Lee Pearson and Styletta taking the third spot with 71.813%.

Georgina Wilson commented: “I’m so pleased to win today. I’ve only been riding Midnight Z since April. I owe my success to my trainer Sophie Wells.”

It was another first place rosette for the brilliant Natasha Baker and Mount St John Diva Dannebrog as they secured a third win in as many days in the Grade III with 74.967%. Runners-up were Erin Orford riding Dior with 74.520% followed up by Amanda Shirtcliffe riding New-Princess with 71.500%

Hartpury was delighted to watch graduate Sarah Rao on Waldessarini in the Classic Dressage FEI CDI Prix St Georges this morning.
