Show Jumping Shines through at The British Breeding Virtual Futurity Evaluations

The second week of The British Breeding/Baileys Horse Feeds Futurity Evaluations saw a strong representation for show jumping stars of the future with 3 highly coveted Gold awards presented.

For the first time breeders have been submitting their entries in a digital format in sets of detailed videos taken on hard and soft ground that were examined by a team of international experts, including a senior veterinarian, nutritionist, linear scorer and senior evaluators from the UK, Holland and Germany.

The Futurity evaluations aim to identify British bred, young potential sport horses and ponies that are destined for careers in dressage, eventing, show jumping, or endurance and may even find the Olympic Champions of the future.  Entries are categorised by discipline with age groups for foals, yearlings, two and three-year olds.

Captain Tom and Mare Wendela B

Anastasia Beskhmelnitskaya, of Waresley Park Stud in Bedfordshire was delighted to receive an overall score of 8.41 and a gold award for her colt Captain Tom.  The judges felt he was an attractive foal with long lines and three scopey, active gaits.  Captain Tom scored a mark of 9 from the international evaluators for his canter, who noted he was an exciting prospect for the future.

Captain Tom is out of Wendala B and combines the popular blood of stallion Contendro I with some proven favourites in the dam sire Hold Up Premier, a direct son of the legendary Narcos out of a Quidam de Revel mare, and behind that come Recruut and none other than Nimmerdor. The direct motherline has produced the Grand Prix dressage horse Victor, successful under the saddle of the American rider Heather Oleson.

Silviva Amour, a yearling filly, was presented by Sian Harman, of Hill View Stud, Kidlington and achieved a score of 8.22. The judges commented that she was a very attractive and harmonious filly, very well developed for her age, with good gaits and a lot of potential for the future.

Silviva Amour

Sian bred Silviva Amour out of Diva II, one of 5 mares she has at the stud. Sian says “Diva is by Demonstrator and is a more old-fashioned style dressage horse with a lot of presence and substance about her”.  Silviva Amour is by Silvester an established stallion by Carthago Z, out of the Voltaire mare, Notre Dame, Silvester has a top-class pedigree and is proven to be a great sire and his youngstock have excellent conformation and movement. The sire of 11 Futurity Elites, 36 Higher First, 4 Golds and 25 First Premiums, Silvester has the unique distinction of Elite progeny in three disciplines.

Previous participants in the Futurity Evaluations, Amy Derber, of Risada Stud, Swindon enjoyed success again with their foal Risada Childlike Empress who scored 8.16. This particular filly impressed the judges with her harmonious conformation and lovely quality, combined with three very good correct gaits, developing nice activity in front and good athleticism.

Risada Childlike Empress

Childlike Empress is out of J.R.P I Need a Dollar and by the stallion, Caretino Glory who has an outstanding record in the sport as well as being a proven breeding stallion from one of the very best jumping motherlines. On the dam side is the exciting Kannan son Danny Kannan and Kashmir van Schuttershof, a prolific producer of internationally successful show jumpers. The direct motherline has produced several internationally successful offspring, including the 1.50m horse Hollywood Be Good and Casanova de Vitron. The combination of Kashmir on this line also produced the mare Altesse de Vitron, who is now competing at 1.40m level under the saddle of Karen McFarland.

All of these recipients qualify for pre-selection into the first ever Futurity Elite Online Auction, which will be held in September this year in cooperation with ClipMyHorse.TV.

Says Dr Eva-Maria Broomer:

“It is a great pleasure to see such great examples in our auction selections. The Futurity Elite Online Auction is unique in that buyers can bid with confidence and in the knowledge that all our foals and young horses for sale have been through the same rigorous, transparent and independent evaluation process from a team of international experts, evaluators, veterinarians and nutritionists and have been selected for ability, longevity and soundness.”
